Cloth Face Mask Development for Kids with Improved Fit and Usability Features

This study explored children's face mask design preferences through parent and child interviews, iterative prototyping, and a unique cultural probe kit — a playful activity book that captured user feedback across over two weeks. The key concerns identified — fit, comfort, ease of use, and personalization — informed two novel mask designs featuring adjustable elastic loops, an embedded boning structure, and a memory foam nose clip. This research is funded by UC Davis Environmental Health Sciences Core Center Seed grant.
